Joseph Pilates & Contrology
Contrology, as Pilates was originally called, is a workout that was developed by a German boxer, Joseph Pilates. The Classical Matwork sequence has been designed for dancers and athletes and published in Jo Pilates’s book ‘Pilates Return to Life through Contrology’ in 1945.
The exercises build strength and flexibility in an even way, emphasising the importance of a strong and stable core before working the arms and the legs. The movements should be flowing, precise and mindful.
The Full Mat sequence is a super challenging workout, even at an advanced level.
