My Approach

I am Carole, the founder and teacher at PilateStance.

I am passionate about the neuromuscular system and functional movement. When a client finds a movement difficult, I do not automatically assume that strength or fitness is the limiting factor. I first consider their body awareness and how they perceive, interpret, and use sensory information. As body awareness improves, we can develop movement skills and, finally, physical capacity.

Whether teaching a group class or a private session, I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Instead, I help clients learn more about themselves through movement, recognising what they may be avoiding or overusing while exploring new and more efficient ways of moving. My aim is to create an environment that supports learning through a collaborative, honest, and positive relationship.

I am committed to continuous professional development and regularly undertake specialist training to deepen my knowledge and refine my teaching. I teach in both English and French.

My Background

After a career in digital project management in Paris and ten years of practising Classical Pilates, I moved to London and decided to make Pilates more than a hobby. I completed my matwork training with Body Control Pilates in 2017 and have since continued to deepen my understanding of Pilates through further specialist education.

I hold the Active IQ Level 4 Certificate in Instructing Pilates Matwork, making me one of fewer than 25 teachers in the UK with this advanced qualification. A Level 4 qualification represents the highest level of achievement within the health and fitness industry, demonstrating advanced knowledge and skills to teach Pilates across a broad spectrum of clients, including special population groups.

Following three years of working alongside physiotherapists in a clinical environment, I chose to study osteopathy to further deepen my understanding of the human body and movement. I am currently undertaking osteopathy studies alongside my Pilates practice.

I am a member of the Body Control Pilates Association and the Body Control Pilates Academy.
